Many owners and players of Sony PlayStation 5 may not exactly know about the origins of
PlayStation. Believe it or not, some of them may never play the original console. It is reasonable
because the first version of PlayStation hit the world in 1994. There are many fans of PlayStation that were born long after that year. In terms of history, PlayStation is more than a gaming console.
The idea of Sony PlayStation comes from the anger of Sony President Norio Ohga. In 1988, Sony and Nintendo started to work together in the gaming industry. They produce a Super Famicom with CD-ROM. The prototype was revealed in the 1991 Consumer Electronics Show. Sony labeled the Super Famicom with a built-in CD-ROM.
A day after the reveal, Nintendo delivers an official announcement to part with Sony in that particular project. Unfortunately, Nintendo decided to take the project away from Sony to work with Philips. Sony President responds to that matter by initiating the so-called PlayStation project. It aims to rival Nintendo at that time. In June 1992, a meeting to decide the fate of the PlayStation project was held. Unfortunately, theproject is moved to Sony Music Entertainment.

The reason is that Sony wants to maintain therelationship with Philips for other projects. It was in 1993 that the green light for the project was there.
In the end, the first version of Sony PlayStation hit the Japanese market in December of 1994.
The console is available for the rest of the world in the following year. Believe it or not, it is the first of any video gaming console to hit the 100 million units sold in under a decade. Therefore, it is reasonable that there are many fans of this console. More importantly, the origins of Sony
indicate that it aims to defeat competitors in the industry.
Continuing the history of Sony , the next version of the console hit the world in 2000.
Believe it or not, it is another tremendous success for the Japanese company. Sony is the best-selling home console until today, with more than 155 million units sold. It reaches that number inabout twelve years. Unfortunately, the glory of PlayStation seems to fade away after that. Sony PlayStation 3 reached 87.4 million units sold after about eleven years in the market.
