Technologies Used in the Medical Field

Posted on February 22, 2015February 23, 2022 By Cindy Cpd No Comments on Technologies Used in the Medical Field

Besides the IT field, the rapid growth of technology also affects other fields, including the medical field. So that the future of the medical field cannot be separated from technology development. The growth of technology helps doctors, health practitioners, and those who work in the medical field to provide better treatment and medications. So, what technologies are used in this field? Here they are.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality or VR is the technology that can present a real virtual environment. In the medical field, this technology is used as a surgery simulation tool for future doctors. It also helps doctors to determine the surgical site on the patient’s body. Virtual Reality is predicted as the future of health services. Back in 2020, it was estimated that the global virtual reality market value in health services reached US$3.8 billion.

Augmented Reality

The next technology used in the medical field is Augmented Reality or AR. Different from Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality does not remove contact with reality. This technology is often used when doctors perform preoperative examinations, such as MRIs or CT scans, which can give surgeons an idea of the patient’s internal anatomy. The use Augmented Reality or AR can also help patients to get accurate, complete information about their illness.

Skin Cancer Scanner

Cancers are a dangerous, life-threatening disease since no cure has been found yet for this illness. There are several types of cancers and all of them are dangerous, including skin cancer. Fortunately, there is a new technology innovation in the medical field to detect skin cancer, which is named a skin cancer scanner. This tool works by using electromagnetic waves. It was invented for the first time by Mela Find.

The function of this skin cancer scanner is to figure out types of skin cancer, just like a detector. This way, doctors and patients will be able to know if the skin cancer is aggressive or not. This tool uses photography technology with very long electromagnetic waves. After that, the data taken will be matched by using the melanoma database that has been previously collected.

Health Check-Up Robot

This technology innovation in the medical field is invented by iRobot Corp and In Touch Health, which are 2 giant companies that have already invented a few useful innovations. This health check-up robot is extremely useful for both hospitals and patients, especially when the hospital is full of patients. With this robot, patients do not have to see doctors to have medical check-ups, especially the regular ones.

Nanotechnology

Nano technology is called the new revolution since it creates substances with tiny sizes up to one per billion meters or nanometers. Nano technology in the medical field involves apps from nanoparticles that are currently under development. The research involves the use of nano-sized robots that are used to perform treatment at the cellular level. Just like what the Max Planck Institute did. They experimented by creating nano-sized robots that could enter body fluids and help to deliver medicines on target.
