Anything unique is always to discuss, including unique cities from all over the world. Do you know that there are some unique cities in the world with long, interesting histories? In this article, we will inform you about it.
Slab City
All countries and cities have their regulations and rules to regulate the communities. But people who live in Slab City, Sonora Desert, California, USA, do not think that such things are important. Slab City is one of the most unique cities in the world whose most of the population is elderly, especially retirees. Besides elderly, artists and beggars also live in this unique city. It is said that they just want to spend their time in a free, calm place without any restricting rules.

Slab City does not have electricity, clean water, and other infrastructure supporting facilities. In a nutshell, this city was originally a training facility for the US marine corps in 1942 in preparation for World War II. In 1956, all the buildings were demolished but the area remained open. Then, the Department of Defence released the area for free to California because it was no longer needed. Along with time, a chemical company in Oakland employed 20 workers to harvest creosote leaves here in this area.
These workers became the forerunner of Slab City. Given no electricity, people in this city use generators or solar panels to produce daily electricity. The nearest activity centre is about 4 miles away in the southwest of Slab City, where residents often go there for basic shopping.
Setenil de las Bodegas
Setenil de las Bodegas is a unique city in Cadiz Province, Spain. The uniqueness of this city is the large basalt stone right above the house of each citizen. The stone is like a protector that overshadows almost the entire residence of the local population. So, it is not surprising that Setenil de las Bodegas has become one of the most favourite tourist destinations in Spain. This small city is located 157 Km northeast of Cadiz.
In order to maintain the aesthetic of the large basalt stone, the urban planning is made by enlarging natural caves and adding external walls. Besides the large basalt stone, this unique city also has a good reputation for processed meat products from local farm animals. When you travel to this city, do not forget to taste their pastels and other pastries.
Miyake Jima
Miyake Jima is an inhabited volcanic island in the Izu Islands, Philippine Sea, which is around 180 Km southeast of Honshu, Japan. Just like the rest of the Izu Islands group, Miyake Jima is also part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. This city is located under an active volcano that produces volcanic ash and sulphur-containing gas every day. So that people living in this city always wear a mask in order to survive here.
The toxic gas is extremely dangerous and can be deadly if inhaled. But for one reason, citizens remain to live there, which is for money. It is reported that the Japan government gives annual salaries to those willing to live here.
